2018: The year of award-winning customer service, a record number of shows, an award for PV installer of the year, technology advancements and more!

We began the year with the National Self Build and Renovation Show in January, our first self-build exhibition of many! The success of the first show continued throughout the year as we attended Build It Live, Grand Designs, Homebuilding and Renovating, to name just a few. We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to everybody who stopped to chat to us at these shows – we love hearing all about your projects and being able to assist you with your enquiries.

In February, we were overjoyed to be named Solar PV Installer of the year at the Regional Energy Efficiency Awards! This was such a fantastic award for Solar Plants to win, especially after picking up the award for overall National winner of Solar PV Installer of the Year in 2017! We couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication of our amazing Solar Plants team, and our customers who give us such great feedback and allow us to keep doing what we love!

In March we held a competition for our customers to win £50 in vouchers! Our winner was Paul, who wrote a fantastic blog about his PV generation during the month of April after Solar Plants upgraded his system. Here’s a little snippet of his blog; “Without being too geeky and technical, in September 2017 Solar Plants installed power optimisers on the back of each panel of our 3kW system and a new inverter. Since then have I been monitoring performance (quite?) closely. We enjoyed the best ever Feed-In Tariff 4th quarter by 24 kWh (+10%) and a record 1st quarter by a massive 55 kWh or 24% (Dec – Feb). And now the best ever single day – and in April too”.

During April, Solar Plants off-grid engineer, Ian Hewson, designed and installed a battery testing system at Solar Plants Headquarters. Using a Victron Energy Management system, Ian is product testing one battery product at a time to report on a number of things; speed of charging, actual capacity vs stated, depth of discharge and peak power. Commenting on the system, Ian said, “Being able to test established and new innovations in the rapidly evolving battery storage market is invaluable. It allows me to test new battery technologies on the ground, and compare them with manufacturers stated performance (datasheets) before deploying in the field”.

We also created some great new video content for our website and social media channels throughout the year. You can view all of these over on our Youtube channel including videos to help you use the SolarEdge monitoring portal, self build customer testimonials and more. One of our favourites to film was with Debbie and David, who live off-grid in Leighton Buzzard. You can watch the video below!

In August we launched our new stand at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre. We held our official stand launch during the Heat and Energy Workshop at the NSBRC on Saturday 18th August and we were overwhelmed by the amazing response from so many people on their enthusiasm for including renewable energy into their self build and renovation projects – perhaps some of the enthusiasm also came from the free prosecco and cupcakes we were handing out!

During the summer, we attended a record 31 agricultural shows across the UK! We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the organisers of these shows who always deliver an exceptional day for the public – even in some challenging weather conditions, and an even bigger thank you our dedicated show team who have put so much hard work into educating the public about solar; they really have gone the extra mile – 19,493 miles in total to be precise!

In October, we were thrilled to win the award for Best Customer-Centric Culture at the UK Customer Experience Awards! Solar Plants Director, Oliver Farr said: “I am so proud of the whole team at Solar Plants and this award if a reflection of our unwavering passion and dedication to providing all customers with a first-class experience from initial enquiry, through to installation and beyond. Solar Plants began as a family business and as we have grown, we have always kept this ethos at the heart of everything we do, treating our customers as an extended part of our family – this award demonstrates this mantra in the best possible way.”

We finished the year in full festive spirit, with Christmas Jumper Day and our Solar Plants Christmas Party on December 14th. We collected food for our local food bank before enjoying the evening at a local hotel with amazing food, live music and even better company. Here’s a few photos from the party using our Instagram frame – you can follow us on Instagram using the name displayed: SolarPlantsLtd and follow our Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Youtube channels by clicking the social media name which will take you directly to the page!

2018 has also been a very busy year for our team in their own personal lives too! We celebrated 2 amazing weddings, 4 new babies and a winning performance on 15 to 1 from Telesales agent, Ryland. A huge congratulations to you all!

Our plans, goals and exciting new content for 2019

2018 was a great year for the EV revolution which continues to power ahead as new innovations, models and ideas come onto the market. We are planning to continue assisting new and existing customers with ways that solar can work alongside owning an EV and how solar energy can charge an EV for free with clean, green energy.

We are also planning an even greater number of shows and exhibitions this year, both indoor and outdoor, at self-build exhibitions and agricultural shows. We have our brand new exhibition trailer and demonstration roof which we will be using to show you all of our products and technology.

We upload brand new content to our social media channels daily, we are excited to show you our new content for 2019 which includes brand new blogs, videos and infographics! Make sure you’re following all of our platforms to keep up to date.

As the Feed-In Tariff is set to end in March, we are in our final few months of solar installations that will be eligible for the Government’s Feed-In Tariff which is currently worth up to £7,000! “If you want solar panels, get your skates on!” says Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis  – click here to read more about the Feed-In Tariff scheme.

We are so proud to have collected hundreds of excellent reviews on Trustpilot in 2018 and as a result, we are currently rated 9.7/10 and are the UK’s leading solar PV installer. We are determined to continue providing our five-star service to both our new and existing customers.
