Tranquillity Restored: a reliable off-grid installation from Solar Plants

Out in the rural farming areas of Llandeilo in Wales, there is little to be seen or heard except hushed rustling in the trees, the occasional bleat from nearby sheep or a tractor passing on the narrow country lanes. The picturesque country scene looks beautiful to any visitor and the peaceful ambience of the area is why locals love living here so much. The only issue? Electricity!

Adrian and his wife moved to the area to relax and enjoy their newly bought idyllic cottage but their vision of retiring to a tranquil location was interrupted by an unreliable and costly generator, making even the smallest of luxuries, like boiling the kettle, a challenge.

Adrian enquired to the local network operator for a cost of connecting their new home to the National Grid, but was shocked (to say the least) at the cost. With a starting figure of £50,000, which could rocket to a hefty £70,000 after trenching and cable costs, they were back to square one knowing this cost was completely out of their budget.

With Ian’s expert guidance, they decided upon building their own little power station in an outbuilding, a little way down the lane from their cottage, at a quarter of the price of a grid connection

As the cottage was nestled amongst so many trees, they were not in an ideal spot for solar to be installed on their home, with far too much shading. So, after coming across Solar Plants online, they had an initial chat with Ian about their options and decided to plan a site survey to get further information and costs. Together, with Ian’s expert guidance, they decided upon building their own little power station in an outbuilding, a little way down the lane from their cottage, at a quarter of the price of a grid connection! As green enthusiasts, not only was Adrian pleased with this much lower cost but being able to produce clean energy was much more appealing.

The installation includes 20 PV panels fixed to the outbuilding, connected to a battery which can be charged for use in the evenings, and a backup generator to top up if needed during the darker winter months.

Using a Twoot off-grid wifi device, all data and information from the system will be available on a visual display via the Victron energy portal so the family can keep an eye on the system and their production. Our dedicated monitoring team will also continuously monitor the system and can adjust things remotely, without even having to take a visit to the site.
